Re-Birth

Re-Birth

A Poem by AiH

My eyes skate over the icy reflection
counting the small tan seeds that dance across my cheeks
I see more than the rounded edges of my face
and notice more than my electrocuted waves that swim across my head

My stance is that of confidence now
holding my torso tall and strong against the villainous voices in my head
The sense of strength my body excretes is palpable even in the next room
and i discover that my shoulders are pulled back in alignment to my spine

My skin is decorated with ink and scars
kissed by the sun in a disorganized fashion and granting me individuality and cause
with the once cracked terrain now flushed with soft rolling valleys
and i feel the silky resistance against that pain it once only knew

My heart is stitched together with rusty needles and purple thread
and yet its throbbing pulse which beats and pounds in my ribs remains vigilant
before my make shift surgery my heart beat low and resistant
and i realize that without my dedication to myself those strings wouldn't hold together
