Tough Sailing

Tough Sailing

A Poem by AiH

They work in teams

Each taking a rope

Each tugging at the mast

Spinning it around

Pulling my ship

in every direction

it doesn’t want to go

The rope it's attached to are strong

it fights against the unwanted division of force

it holds tall against the raging winds

despite the constant tugging

in every direction

and the crashing waves

slamming against the sides

forcing the its foamy virus in through the cracks

The salty water stinging open sores

embedded on my crews tainted hands

makes them want to give up

but this is my ship and I am the captain

No amount of wind or raging waves will

wreck my sturdy ship nor will it damage my sails

My vessel is indestructible

My crew is everlasting

Together we get through any storm we face

any malignant detour we take

will not mutilate our courage

or our fight to survive
