Opossum

Opossum

A Poem by PasDeChat

I see you staring at me

you look through me and I can not move

you know my secrets and my deepest fears

My heart stops and all you do is stare

you know I am faking it

you know I am not real

You hiss and show me your jagged teeth

I am frozen in fear

Cemented to the floor

As we stare at each other both frozen and alone

I want you to devour me and send me away

to a place where my inner child can run and play

Far away from reality, with only good thoughts

I hope to die in the moment and be remember as  very lost

I came face to jaws with a opossum on my back porch, so I can relate to this poem. I was frozen in fear, and almost didn't get the door shut in time. Well written poem. I felt your fear.

That's one smart opposum! I'd give anything to know what those little beady eyes are seeing when they look at me - am I, too, invisible, not real? Funny, how I always thought it was the opposum who was unreal (playing dead only reinforces this perception of mine). Good poem.
