Aged Ballerina

Aged Ballerina

A Poem by PasDeChat

"Did you see?  Her leg is even lower today"

"She fell out of her double, Her pointe work not the strongest"

"Did you see the new girl?"

"Her turns are fierce, she nailed the triple"

At what price do we pay for the "new" and inexperienced?

Have we forsaken all of our time honored traditions?

Age used to command respect and admiration

Doors held, seats given up and a bow of reverence

Living life to its fullest seems a mystery

Elder at one time a word of esteem and history

In this new and improved self service nation

At what price did we become antiquated

this is a powerful poem. & speaks so much truth. age is looked down upon, when it should be revered, all society cares about anymore is beauty & finding the 'next thing', & only see beauty in the young. to me beauty is in the older, wiser among us, they are the most confident ones, the more intellectual ones, the more experienced. a wonderful poem, showing the falling of this 'aged' ballerina, & also touching on the obsessions of looks in this society.

Yes, at what price, indeed.
Nice touch in the contrast at the beginning of the write and the ending is perfect.
