The Advantages of Insomnia

Insomnia does have it's benefits :)

 

I

On a sleepless night at the end of June

Looked at the sky

And saw the glowing light of vibrant moon

 

Shine.

 

The banyan leaves in the blowing wind

Danced on their own

From the rooftop gazed this human being

 

Alone.

 

An unknown bird on the telephone pole

Sang a lullaby

The gentle breeze sat my tethered soul

 

Free.

 

The wind grew strong as the raincloud spread

To engulf the sky

Before the monsoon rain the full moon said

 

Goodbye.

 

Raindrops fell on the thirsty land

Gave an earthy smell

Soaked in rain I stretched my hand

 

Inhale.

 

On that scenic night in nature’s show

This lonesome guy

Felt a pinch of sadness he will never know

 

Why.

Fantastic poem. It is amazing, the moments of life that cause us to do our soul searching. Most of the time the greatest searching comes as we commune with nature. We feel our smallest in comparrison the the "engulfing power" of the world and universe around us. I enjoyed how you described your scene, and your feelings. Nice work!! This poem made me feel like I was an insomniac, especially since you allowed a break between the last rhyming word. It allowed me to dwell on what was said, especially that last word and then move on. Very good writing!
