A Poem by West
"

Nostalgia is too bittersweet for my taste...not sure what it's my favorite emotion.

"

the wind blew cold in the mornings...

smoking cigarettes by the door,

talking about the plans we’d made,

and what we made them for.

You looked smart, sipping coffee

in an oversized button-down,

a pair of wire-framed glasses and

that scarf you wore around

did I mention that I love you?

it was always on my mind,

but perhaps the words escaped me

or I didn’t say them right.

the floors shook when the midday train

came angrily speeding by

we drank everything from coffee mugs

because only they would stay upright

the hardwood swelled and creaked

with the ghosts of all spills past

you just smiled at each addition

as if it would be the last

did I mention that I need you?

that only you could keep me sane?

feed me your affection

and drive away these hunger pains?

nighttime in the city streets

the buildings come to life

I look out from my window

and wonder if you can see their lights

did you find the answers?

can you see me now?

and if you can, I wonder,

do I make you proud?

did I mention that I miss you?
