CapturedA Story by Nerd_Fighter42Part of a story i'm attempting to write.Hands still over my
nose and mouth, I saw a final glimpse of light escape my vision as the world
spun into a blur and I sank limply into my captors arms.
. . . My eyes opened slowly
and painfully as I pulled myself out a clouded state of mind. Instantly pain
overwhelmed my body as an unbearable twinge blasted through my head. Closing my
eyes to stop it, I realized finding darkness wouldn't be hard: I was surrounded
by it. I struggled and twisted in an icy cold chair only to cause immense pain
to spread through my arms and legs as they suddenly strained to be released
from rope bindings. I heard a sharp, single cry escape my mouth and felt a tear
run down my face. My breathing was shallow and inconsistent though a thin gag
between my lips as fear wracked my lifeless body. I thrashed once again at the
ropes, but I felt a stream of blood run down my arm. The torturous pain and
silence went on for what seemed lie days. I writhed in the seat continuously,
small cries escaping my mouth against my will until suddenly all pain ceased
and the sound of water dripping softly onto the stony floor and I fell into unconsciousness.
. . . I awoke with a start,
my senses suddenly alive and quick. I felt adrenaline coursing through my
veins, waking up every muscle in my body. The pain was immeasurable, a new
throbbing pain shooting through my neck, but nothing mattered. I realized that
my moments of fear had only caused consequences that had to be overcome. Fast. I
began to analyze the situation. The darkness around me was as if a blanket had
been thrown over my head; endless and suffocating. My arms were tied together viciously
behind the chair at the wrists and my legs were each tied to one of the legs of
the bitter chair. The most uncomfortable was the gag, limiting my breathing and
causing my fear to strike to new levels. I tried to remember everything I’d
been taught up to this point. Thoughts poured into my fear-struck mind and I sorted
through them slow and steady. My instinct was to remove the gag first, to
relive myself of some of the tension in my body. And so the work began. The gag was tied securely,
hardly any slack to be found with the knot pressing firmly against the nape of
my neck. I relaxed every possible muscle in my body and pushed out forcefully
with my tongue. After only a few seconds, I knew it was a hopeless cause and
there was no use using energy I’d need later now. The only other option
was to remove the ropes from my wrists against all odds. I couldn’t reach
anything from my pockets and with the gag, I’d never reach my necklace. The never-ending
darkness halted the idea of using my surroundings, so the only choice was to fidget
more until the ropes came loose. Taking it one step at a time no matter the
pain, I’d get free. And so it began. Slowly and painfully, I
wriggled my wrists constantly as the ropes dug deeper into my raw skin by the
minute and no matter how hard I tried, they never seemed to get looser. Tears
streamed down my face and my lower lip bled as I bit down on it to stop sharp
cries from escaping me. Fear mounted in my chest as I feared that I’d never
escape. I gave a final struggle and felt a single rope fall off my wrist and
dangle in midair. Suddenly, I could reach the knots. I was still in shock, but I
hurriedly untied each knot until my fingers too felt raw and the ropes fell to
the floor with a triumphant thump. It
was the sound of freedom. I threw my wrists forward to connect with the rest of
my arms and threw the gag from my lips. I drew in a deep breath, the feeling of
a thick stream of air rushing down my throat like on a spring day. I bent
forward and undid the knots around my legs and ankles without any trouble. As
soon as I did, I stood up, forgetting how weak I was. My legs felt nonexistent
and my head seemed to explode form the inside. I took a few steps forward until
my legs collapsed beneath me. I stood right back up, no longer caring about the
pain. In front of me I found a cold cement wall and a door directly next to it.
Quietly, I turned the knob and entered new territory. I ran down corridor
after corridor, turning right and left attempting to find some sort of exit.
But nothing seemed to be found on the walls. No doors, no windows, not even an
air vent. I stopped to think and find my breath once again only pausing for a
second. But before I could take one more step into the maze, I sharp pain
erupted in my neck and down my spine. The pain was like nothing I’d ever
experienced and I collapsed to floor, unable to scream. I placed my head onto
the floor to cease the pain, the room spinning before me. And then nothing. © 2013 Nerd_Fighter42Author's Note
