Home Bound

A Poem by Maame Yeboah
"

A prediction to an alternative of how I foreshadowed my life if I grew up in my hometown of Hayward,California. A missing puzzle piece.

"

I look out my window to see the grass as green as a lime on a summers day as the reflection of the sun grows
I can feel the wind softly scurrying past my face as if it were in a rush to get somewhere
The sun beaming on my face feels amazing
I can hear the splash of waters as people swim at the beaches

I feel the sand biting at my toes
As I walk, the rocks and shells dance gracefully at my feet
The voices of people’s happiness is joy to my ears
Music’s being blasted on a nearby boardwalk

I open my eyes to the sight of people walking around holding hands and playing
There’s nothing cuter than a couple on a beach
Their summer romance has just begun, I think to myself
As I walk past them I smile a little because I enjoy the sight

I dash by sand-castles and beach chairs as I jet to the boardwalk
I remove my flip flops to feel the warm wood under my feet
There in front of me stands a rollercoaster that I am forever afraid to go on
Today will be the day I face my fears

I hear my name being called from a distance a plethora of times
My head turns to the sight of my friends
The smiles on their faces are indescribable
I quickly run to them in excitement looking forward to a day of fun

I now know that nothing can bring me down
Today may be a day like no other-
But it’s the day I took in the beauty of the beach,
And appreciated my surroundings

I feel at home and comfortable
This is the place where I belong
This is home, where I am welcomed to stay
This is California
