HappinessA Chapter by Kathryn Smith
H a p p i n e s s is just around the corner from you....
The summer I returned from Ireland was a long summer. I was a miserable 24 year old girl. They say that depressed people sleep more. I can tell you it is 100 percent true. It is how you get away from the knawing pain. I remember feeling like I was physically breaking inside. The light in my eyes was gone. The bounce in my happy go lucky step had ceased. A shell of a girl is what I was. My parents thought I was missing Ireland, so I was encouraged to go to Irish Fest in Milwaukee with them. I reluctantly agreed to come along. On that afternoon, my mom texted me to meet her for lunch at a certain food stand. In the August heat, as I navigated through the endless crowd, I walked past a stage. Musicians were playing a song that made me freeze and stop in my tracks. They were singing about Happiness. Something I was terrified I had lost. I had longed so deeply to be happy again; but nothing seemed to work. Inching my way to the stage, I felt the light in my eyes slowly return. The depression began to shed. It was the day I discovered the music group We Banjo 3. A band I would eventually become a crew member of. © 2020 Kathryn SmithReviews
