Longing

Longing

A Poem by Kathryn Smith

At first glance

Her soul was moved

But she saw his eyes pained

Sorrowful longing seeps

Out of cracks in the walls

and his marriage to Christ crumbles

In lust and sin

His hands grip the chair

Her coat is taken off

And their gazes stay

This is not The Thorn Birds

Or is it?

Love is powerful

Love is longing

And together

They could be

Free

From oppressed feelings

But they love God the Father

So the longing

Will linger

But from afar

She'll pray in dresses

And love him on the altar

Very well - sweet, somber and encapsulating. Nicely put.

Love's some freedom itself that carries two bodies, one soul to the shores of peace and delights keeping one's essence so warmed & secured under the chandelier of lust & sin. Delighted to read your work. Looking forward to reading your poetry.
