The Light

The Light

A Chapter by Kathryn Smith

Jacob's small feet sunk into snow. A bitter strong wind whipped his face, stinging his eyes.
He looked around.
Now where was he? Under a bright moon, he stood in a vast land. It seemed to be in the middle of nowhere. A snow storm was coming alive and accumulating by the second.
Impatient, he grew anxious, hugged himself, and trudged his way through the blinding white and cold.

His mind was scattered. What had he accomplished? What had he to give to his father above?

Presently, a faint light appeared in the distance.

It grew brighter and closer to Jacob.
He shouted at the top of his lungs.Hello! Hello? Who is there? I'm looking for shelter!

Squinting he saw 1 large shadow, tall and thick  looming towards him.
Jacob quickened his pace towards the light..but as he got closer, the light seemed to be growing dimmer, getting further away.

Then there was a voice.

Master! Master! I'm here! Where shall I bring thee? Jacob turned and a small boy about his age came frantically sprinting past.
HELLO!?
Jacob shouted.
But the boy, neither the man could seem to hear him.
Finally, after fighting his way through the storm, Jacob reached the people.
The man was broad and dressed in tasteful robes. The boy was dressed nicely too, but seemed to be a servant.
Together they continued to journey through the snow.
The boy looked helpless and cold.
He grew miserable.
But the man kept on droning on, demanding he must help the poor.
Master, the boy pleaded. We mustn't go any further. This storm is too much. We shall be sick! I cannot see anymore!

Excuse me! Jacob shouted.
The king turned and looked him.

His eyes squinted.

My boy, look! A light! Follow me!
Jacob stood still.
Looking down he jumped.
His chest was glowing.
A bright light beamed from his chest.

The man peered curiously.

Page, do you not see that?

Look there, a light!

See what? The boy shouted, shivering in the howling wind.

The man began to walk to Jacob, with his page following
his footsteps.
And with that, step by step, Jacob slowly lead and guided the robed man and his page through the snow into a small village.
