When you are called your sister's name over and over. No one remembers your own name. What do you do when your own brother and sister never get you a card on your birthday? What do you do when they cut down the forest you hid in? What do you do when the girl who you let cry on your shoulder got married and didn't invite you? What do you do when you can sit through an entire dinner without saying a single word? What do you do when your friends get married or move far away with their boyfriends and never call again? What do you do when you sit in church alone among families and lovers? What do you do when your heart is sinking everyday? When every friend you ever had fades away? And what do you do when you feel so miserably alone? You think of a lullaby. A lullaby you played long ago for a small new infant boy. When his tiny fingers, nails the size of rice wrapped around your thumb. You cradled him to sleep. And You watched him grow. Six years later, One night while tucking him into bed he looked at you. And he asked if you could play him that lullaby. The one you played for him as a baby. Tears come to your eyes. Because you remember looking at him as an infant, hoping he would remember your song one day. So you play it for him. And with a happy heart. The boy you love more than anything in the world Drifts off to sleep.
