Alone

Alone

A Story by Kathryn Smith

Friend 1: I'm waiting for my boyfriend.

Friend 2: Can Joe come too? You have to meet my new boyfriend!

Friend 3: He took me on a road trip for our anniversary! It was sooo romantic!

Friend 304: I'm so in love with my boyfriend.

Friend: 305: Hey....don't you have a boyfriend?

I break.

I squirm.

The heart grows colder.

Because there's no one.

I feel sick.

And loneliness could kill a girl.

Where is he?

I'm tired of waiting.

I'm tired of never being good enough.

There was the man in the Band.

But he's always on a plane flying around the world.

There was the boy from Oxford - but he wouldn't wait for me.

The Irish boy was an eejit

And the other Irishman is taken.

Frantic.

I run into the woods to hide.

I have plenty knocking on my door..

They all just want sex.

And I don't want them..

I just don't like them..

I know my standards.

I know my worth.

I know exactly what I want..

I ruined my chance with the man at the Library.

I am empty.

I am alone.

Alone.

So bloody alone.

And now I'm breaking to pieces.

I don't need a man to complete me..

But I am human..

And a human needs love.

Where is he?

Love finds you when you stop looking for it. I know that sounds lame, but it tends to be true.

I like the intensity of the speaker and the "prologue" was clever.
