Poltergeist

Poltergeist

A Poem by Kathryn Smith

I started all the wars

I started all the wars

I've been getting messages from my deep waters

I'd be a resentful caretaker

Blame me for your false indicators

You've mistaken all my mistakes for my crooked nature

They keep saying

We want to save you

From yourself

Your Self

Protect you

What?

What do they see?

One thing is for certain

They cannot see her

Instead

What is she to them?

A poltergeist?

Rude

Loud

Obnoxious

Too proud

Their words made her feel

Like a monster

Water fills her bedroom

It rises

Objects and ridiculous thoughts

 Levitate over their heads

It seeps into their minds

So they chain her down

Shut the door

She just wanted more

More life

Love

Choice

As their poltergeist

She is empty

Longing to be

A woman

who has

her own mind

In flesh and bone

Are they blind?

She is kind

Let her live

Let her shine

Let her die

Guilt free

Never will she ever

Be controlled
