View from SpaceA Story by Kathryn SmithIf I could fly Then I would know What life looks like from up above and down below I'll keep you safe I'll keep you dry Don't be afraid I'm the satellite And you're the sky What are your earliest memories? I have a few but they are blurry. I was thinking about field trips today. And as a kid, the field trips I can recall have to do with one thing. Space. The first time I saw a planetarium is one of the most brilliant memories I have. Never will I ever forget the stars in the ceiling. How unbelievably magical the whole room became. Later on, during summer school we all got to try food astronauts ate in space. Everyone was amused that I loved the dry ice cream. When I was small I didn't realize my love for space and the sky would continue on. Today, there are days when I love the stars more than people.
They give me beauty and comfort. Wishes, excitement, and hope. I'd love to float up into space and never come back down. I'd go find Pluto and remind the little planet that it still matters. I'd find the rings of Saturn. I would Dance on the moon. I'd kiss the constellations and thank the sun. If I could fly then I would know: What life looks life looks like from up above and down below. I'd see the beauty of earth - and perhaps when I came back down, It would feel less lonely. Because the world is full of good life and love. Sometimes we just have to see it from a different angle.
