Royalty

Royalty

A Story by Kathryn Smith

The rainstorm and the river are my brothers

the herein and the otter are my friends

and we are connected to each other

in a circle

in a hoop that never ends

We recently got a new refrigerator.

My mother went through some papers that were found on the side of our old refrigerator.

In these papers were documents and notes my mother took from listening to her own mother in the past.

My grandmother was a genealogist and could trace back hundreds of years.

One piece of  her notes raised our eye brows.

It said:

"The king of England had a mistress. Together they conceived a secret daughter, and that is our connection to royalty."

Ever since, thoughts have been running through my head.

Me.

Kathryn Annmarie.

I have royalty coursing though my veins.

I am truly at least half an actual princess. Half of an actual queen.

Little Prince George, and Princess Charlotte are my distant relatives.

I had to chuckle to myself - because my friend Rebecca is convinced I AM a Disney Princess.

If I were to be described - my good friends usually go right to describing a Disney character.

This got my mind churning again - which Disney princess did I identify with?

The way I see it, a lot of the original Disney princesses are weepy and whiny about "when will my Prince come! "I need a man or I cant do anything or be anyone!" kind of rubbish.

I thought some more - a few people popped into my mind.

The first woman to pop into my mind isnt your typical Disney Princess.

She is just a normal girl who shows endless feminine strength throughout the movie. She is clearly heartbroken over her past...which makes her slightly in denial that she is falling for someone new.

The second to enter my mind is always barefoot. Just like me!

She runs through the forest with a raccoon and a bird.

She eventually changes the blind minds of various people around her and is always attempting to follow the wind. She has an open mind and is willing to fight for what is right.

The last but not least person to take over my mind the most is one of the newest princesses in the films. I love her very much!

She is a fiery red headed girl who wants more than anything to be free.

She flourishes on the days when she doesn't have to fulfill her princess duties and goes off riding free out in the wilderness.

If I could mix all these lovely girls together - I'd see myself!

Merry old England is close to my heart - and knowing my British roots are extra special now makes me feel incredibly honoured to be a part of it's history.

I hope to return to London one day.

England is the only place where I have ever felt fully awake.

Fulfilled.

Loved.

England will always be my own.

And deep inside a part of me will always rule it.

I enjoyed this story. My grandmother told me. We had the blood of Royalty in us. Her family were the maid of the king. It is cool to now our history. I tell people. Know your heritage. You cam from strong and wise people. Thank you dear friend for sharing the amazing story.

I enjoy the reference to Disney princesses. I think it's very neat that you have a character of royalty that is relatable =]

I guess Disney didn't just put a bunch of colors together and music
They have attempted to instill ethics through a form of art
And those princesses are pretty inside out
i love Pocahontas

A sweet write you got here
I think what matters is to allow for royalty to become a way of living rather than an image .... the ability to rise above everything .... is vital ..... to be more human

Thank you for sharing
