Lost Your HeadA Story by Kathryn SmithAnd you say I've lost my head Can you see it? Belly aches while you're in bed Can you feel it? It snowed all day today. It snowed for a week. White drifts blow out your window. A Mourning Dove on your feeder stays. This cold won't go away. And this loneliness is eating you alive. But the sun will come. Smiles will appear. And your liveliness will be loved. I dream and I wander. I flutter through clouds of pink. Wishes and hopes. Growth and ink. In the meantime.. Why not fall in love with words? With the sky? The glorious moon, the wondrous stars!
Or else you'll never find your head. Remember when you saw the pictures? Of him and a stunning blue eyed girl? and at that moment you knew. You knew you had gone mad. Because your heart was in pieces and you felt sick to your stomach. So you jumped in your car. And you drove away. Its what you always do in dismay You drive. And drive. And drive some more. Her face kept appearing in your mind.
Was it then when you lost your head? Speeding away, you got lost. Your car took you all over the state. Passing golden fields of cut corn crops. Over the winding hills Dotted with autumn leaves and trees. Happy red country barns and then deep into the city. You grew scared as time passed. You could not find your way home. And you were all alone.
You finally returned. A week later he asked: Did you see the pictures? Of me and my sister? You sat there dumbfounded. Nearly angry. But it was just like your favorite movie. With Charlie and Sophie. So you laughed to yourself. You laughed and laughed and laughed. Because on that day You finally knew When you had lost your head. © 2016 Kathryn SmithAuthor's NoteReviews
