Get WEIRD

Get WEIRD

A Story by Kathryn Smith

And now I step out of the crowd and I party on the other side

And no uptight sucker is going to tell me how to live my life

"You're SO weird."

I've heard that phrase for most of life.

When I was younger I got mad and felt insulted, but eventually I learned that being weird was a good thing.

It means you're brave enough to stand out.

You don't blend in like everyone else.

You march to your own beat.

You can speak your mind and be your own person.

Being like everyone else is boring.

When people find out I was born and raised in Wisconsin, they eventually find out I'm not your typical "Wisconsin girl."

I hate football.

I could care less about the Packers.

I'd rather watch soccer.

I despise the cold. I do not like a ton of snow, and you'll never catch me ice fishing or fishing in general.

I love to sit in the heat of the sun and read a book.

I could never hunt and shoot a deer or any other animal.

The deer are my friends. Seriously! There is a small pack of deer I feed apples to in a forest near my home.

Last summer they began to follow me around whenever I'd go hiking.

I love cheese, but I wouldn't be caught dead in a cheese head hat. (Yes, that's a thing, and it's a football thing. )

I don't listen to country music.

I'll never wear camouflage.

I like beer, but I'd rather have wine.

I'd rather dance all night then go to a bar and drink all night until I'm so drunk I cant walk.

I am not Polish like most of the population in Stevens Point and Plover.

I am Irish, German, English, Welsh and Bohemian.

I like to run free through the trees.

I like to create mischief and mix things up.

I like to make towers with candy and coffee creamer cups.

I like to leave long notes to waiters and waitresses.

I like to break out into an English or Irish accent with friends.

I like to dance. (and dance whenever I can even if it's in wal-mart)

I like to cause trouble.

I like to go against the norm.

I like to go into dressing rooms and yell "Hey are you in here?" to see if I can get any responses.

I like to be wildly inappropriate. (Like slowly eating a banana or a popsicle or a pickle and staring a man down can be really fun!)

I like to be barefoot.

I like to make up backstories in my head about random people when I'm bored.

I really love to just make people laugh.

I love Wisconsin and my home and I'll continue to be myself whether people like it or not.

Even when it's considered "weird"

In end, the truth is, none of what I am is weird. (maybe just crazy! ;) )

Embrace your "weirdness!"

You're a limited edition.

Let's get weird all night

Being barefoot, laughter and good story. A perfect woman. I enjoyed the poem and thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

I love your thoughts... especially that first stanza about being weird and different. Being weird just means there is something interesting enough about you to keep someones attention... and when you're bored to entertain yourself :) I've heard that way too many times haha... good work :)
