Stormer

Stormer

A Story by Kathryn Smith

But if you close your eyes does it almost feel like nothing changed at all?

And if you close your eyes does it almost feel like you've been here before?

Music is a universal language.

It has taken an enormous part in my life and without it, I don't know how I'd live.

What would life be without music?

I'd never want to know.

This past week was a very special week for my favorite band.

Bastille was presented an award from Vevo, for the success of their video "Pompeii" that has had tens of millions of views.

The story behind Bastille is a good one.

They literally went from being a little known London band, to suddenly shooting into universal success. (Thanks to Pompeii.)

No one expected this.

Not their record label, not their friends, not their families.

Let alone themselves.

But here they are today, well loved with a brand new album on the way.

Music can be music, or it can be music.

It can be awful with no foundation or meaning, or it can be rich with everything ears yearn to hear.

The music Bastille creates is heaven for a creative mind.

It's food for a writers soul.

With this band, you can go from hearing the dead whisper of their home Pompeii, to Icarus flying away.

You can learn of a character called Laura Palmer, from the television show Twin Peaks.

You can visit a tree with important history and create your own story to it.

Oblivion can visit you, while you're overjoyed with someone's words or company.

I'm so proud of this band and how far they have come.

They've taken home many awards, and have been Grammy nominated.

It's almost been two years since I had Pompeii play in the background of a dream.

That morning I came downstairs.

Suddenly the song that was in my dream was on television.

I ran into the room, took one look at the screen, and that was that.

I became a stormer.

We who love Bastille call ourselves stormers.

When you think of a stormer what do you think of?

I think of someone charging into the dark with fear, but also bravery and pride.

An underdog who has been to hell and back, but finds solace in music and words and love.

This music has gotten me through life.

I credit Bastille for being a part of who I am today.

When people introduce me, or see a picture of Bastille, they automatically associate it with me, and I couldn't be happier.

It's like having your own theme song or soundtrack to your life.

This love for Bastille has brought me new friends, new experiences, and it's given me chances to bring out creativity.

Best off all it brought me to Dan, the mastermind of this music.

I learned something exciting today, but I have to keep it a secret for a while longer!

A big congratulations to Dan Smith, Kyle Simmons, Chris Wood, (Woody) and William Farquarson. (Will)

A warm welcome to Charlie, a new face to Bastille and cheers to everyone involved in making Bastille, Bastille.

It's been a whimsical journey and I'm excited to see what's ahead.

Let's storm on.
