Just Say Yes

Just Say Yes

A Story by Kathryn Smith

Just say yes

Just say there's nothing holding you back

It's not a test

Not a trick of the mind

Only love

So simple and you know it is

We cant be too and fro like this all our lives

Just say yes

because I'm aching and I know you are too

At the very moment I am writing this, Plover is seeing its very first snow fall.

It's sticking to the ground.

In a fresh, clean, pure, glittering white...

It's dancing through the sky.

It's covering the dead grass.

It's blanketing the frozen road.

It's kissing the rooftops.

It's hugging all dullness.

The Christmas lights are glittering in the dark.

And the world is welcoming December.

I don't mind the snow, but I hate the cold with a passion.

What gets me through it is music.

The flakes hurling quickly to the earth reminds me of a band from Dublin called Snow Patrol.

And Snow Patrol reminds me of this specific song. (My favorite from them.)

This song reminds me of someone special.

And when moments come of numbness, the song reminds me of the beginning of it all.

When the numbness and cold suddenly became magical.

When a simple romance was born.

I want you to imagine this:

Imagine accidentally befriending someone you've never met.

He looked like someone you did meet once, and you swear you saw him around.

You find out that you have a lot in common.

You click unusually well together.

You can talk for hours on end and never get tired of one another.

Days turn to weeks.

Weeks turn to months.

Months get into a year.

Before you know it, you've formed something special.

Something so good that it scares you.

Deep down in your heart, you know that this person is that is worth a lot.

You wouldn't trade the world for him.

There's one slight bump in the road.

He lives across the Atlantic ocean.

Despite that factor, care and love start building up.

It grows.

It flourishes.

It learns.

It might break you.

Bring you to your knees.

Some nights it can hold you down.

It nearly hurts because you want that person so much.

It whispers through your eyes and swirls in your hearts.

It blazes through your soul and it creeps into your smiles.

Both of you ache.

You yearn and you burn.

This is brave and wild and free.

This is real.

Sometimes things are so transparent you don't need any further proof.

He is home.

Now imagine that you're going to see each other.

You're going to meet.

You're going to make the most of your time.

How would you leave?

How could you want someone for so long and then get on a jet and fly away?

This is a story that is ongoing.

No one knows what will happen.

Would you give up?

Would you forget him because you know there are miles between you?

Would you tuck away all the time and hours you spent together talking?

The poetry and the letters?

The vibrant colors of sheer happiness and warmth?

Would you say no to falling?

Or would you just say yes and jump in?

Beautiful, hopeful and good journey in your words dear poet. Many good questions for the reader. Sometime we need to hold tight to hope. Thank you for sharing the excellent story.

Thats a mighty big small bump in the road. But Im being Bah Humbug! in light of this glorious testament to love across the oceans.
What is falling in love - you ask the reader to explore the unexplorable but to remember to have a good time whilst doing it. Its not a chore - this love thingy...
Love the choice of picture and the associated track Kathryn - your writing is unique.

"If I lay here, if I just lay here would you lie with me and just forget the world. Forget what we're told before we get too old, show me a garden that's bursting into life."___Snow Patrol
MY favorite Snow Patrol song: "Chasing Cars." Long distance romances are always brimming with hope, and faith that the distance will one day be breached. Your upcoming trip is hung with ornaments of trust, sure that it will end in a cemented love, buttressed against all doubts, secure in the knowledge that the truth will show that the love is strong, and safe...and totally real. Beautifully written, Kathryn, and I'm hoping that all hopes surrounding your trip will live up to your expectations. Love can be fleeting...you have to chase IT. take care...dan
