OctoberA Story by Kathryn SmithOctober. The month the trees turn into gold, red, and orange. The time when children's eyes sparkle with excitement of Halloween. When pumpkins and decorations fill up my eyes. Ghost stories fill my ears. When a fun fright is in the air. Anything can happen in October. This month also marks a month of love.
Years later in 1992, on their anniversary, I was finally cleared to go home from the hospital. I had been in the NICU since my birth in July fighting for my life. After continuously yanking out my breathing tube with my little hands I was considered ready to take on the world. In October magical things happen. Last October I made a friend. This October marks a successful friendship of 1 year. It's exciting to me because I am so used to people leaving. They either die, get bored, end up being a fake, or I get replaced somehow. Yet he is still here. When you stay in touch with someone for an entire year... When you only keep getting closer.. You know there is something real. I've been looking for someone real for a very, very long time. After so many failures, this October is triumphant. It is a win. It was a force of attraction that changed everything. Funny how typing a single word can end up bringing you so much joy. Hello © 2015 Kathryn SmithAuthor's NoteReviews
