September

September

A Story by Kathryn Smith

I lay motionless in bed
I thought of you and where you'd gone
and let the world spin madly on

I watch the stars from my window sill
The whole world is moving and I'm standing still

I say this a lot.

Where does the time go?

I can't believe it's September already.

I'm not a fan of the cold weather but I love the way the leaves change colors.

I love the crisp air and the apples that are ripe to eat.

At home and in Wisconsin in general, we have so many rich autumn traditions.

I could never hate the season!

Yellow school buses roar by, the harvest bursts, and pumpkins begin to pop up.

Fashion evolves and my feet become cold.

Coffee and tea warms our bodies head to toe.

Everything is never what it seems.

The world gets darker.

The nights grow longer.

My mind gets wider and is filled with new knowledge.

The stars get brighter and the sky is clearer.

I can't hang on to the summer heat forever.

Without it leaving how would I appreciate it?

This is the bliss before winter.

The final days of my liveliness.

Green is dying with me, but in a beautiful way.

Might as well make every moment worth it before the numbing cold.
