War PaintA Story by Kathryn SmithToo late to leave these walls Bang! Bang! I can hear the shots But I like the way you feel in the flames of the candle Bring the big guns out, shoot now Watch me put my war paint on If you had to protect love ... Would you lie? Would you go against the grain and against society and love who you wanted to love anyways? Perhaps there's an age gap. Your families hate each other. Not your religion. Your race. Your culture....The list for anyone could go on. Would you fight? Picture Jack and Rose. Think of Romeo and Juliet. One of the greatest love stories ever told. Think about a white person who was in love with a black person in the 1950s. Even Prince William who fell in love with a "commoner" had to be judged at some point. What if you were disapproved by your community? by your friends? By your family? Would you still love who you wanted to love? I happen to be in this situation. I'm not giving up on anything. I've been a fighter since I was born. and I'll continue to fight for what I care about. Sure it might not last long. and the story could end as fast as it started.. but I think every moment is worth it. Every daydream. Every ounce of time and energy we put into each other. No great love was ever easy. The best love is insane. I'll take the bullets. I'll endure possible future snide comments and disapproving looks. The eye rolls. The shallow disgust. Judgment. I'll take it all. I'll take it with the war paint visible on my skin. and I'll show it to the world. If it makes you feel right and alive Don't leave Stay © 2015 Kathryn Smith |
