Forms of Love

Forms of Love

A Story by Kathryn Smith

This is why we do it

This is worth the pain

This is why we fall down and get back up again

This is where the heart lies

This is from above

Valentines Day. It's right around the corner. Its that holiday people either love or hate.

You'd think I'd adore it, knowing I love, love....

but I'm not the biggest fan.

I'd be a hypocrite if I complained about the girls I hear very loudly and vocally grouching they have no Valentine, because I too have been a Valentine's Day Scrooge.

but something dawned on me today....

Everyone has a Valentine on Valentines day.

There are so many different forms of love!

My first true love wasn't for a man.

A child taught me a form of true love.

I was shattered in pieces from a car crash at the time. As my friends entered their very first year of college I took a year off of school to heal up.

I was assigned to take care of a two month old boy. I was terrified. I didn't have much experience with babies... and all he seemed to do was cry his cry that sounded exactly like a siren.

Yet I learned his patterns and I fell in love. I clearly remember the day I realized it.

As he was sleeping I was holding him and wondering if I was doing anything right. Was I succeeding in taking care of this kid? I had no idea. I looked down only to meet these big glittering green eyes full of innocence and wonder gazing up at me. He smiled at me and wrapped his little fingers around mine.  Normally he had a fit when he awoke, but apparently he felt safe today and continued to feel safe with me.

Knowing someone needed and loved me put me on top of the world.  I watched him grow and was there for most of his milestones. We bonded to the point where when his mom or dad came to take him home, he wailed and clung on to me at the end of the day.

I've guided him through life and I am happy to say he has grown into a wonderful little boy. Cashton is now 3 nearly 4. He is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Without the love he taught me I don't know how I would've found my strength again. He is and will always be my little light.

I asked him if he would be my Valentine and he happily agreed. He even made sure he was my one and only.

So here we are.

Valentines Day 2015!

I may not have a handsome man telling me he loves and appreciates me, but I do have love.

What more people need to realize is, we all have love.

We have our mothers and our fathers.

We have our family.

We have our friends.

We might even have someone admiring us from afar!

At the end of the day there is always someone out there who loves us more than we will ever know.

They may be a 3 year old....or they could be a 50 year old.

If you are feeling alone this Valentines Day, just open your eyes.

You'll find it.

This is such a brilliant piece.
Sometimes love in any form is right front of us.
Love can be great in any form, we just need to open our eyes.
This is a deep, moving, inspiring, touching piece.
I hope people read this and they listen to this great advice.
