Candles Burn

Candles Burn

A Poem by Eve
"

reflection on friendships

"
I remember that call, the sun art settee,
you were worried that it wouldn't fit
in the rv, and called to ask me
if you should buy it.
I miss calls like that.
I still remember what I told
you;
"If you love it, it will fit"
and of course it did,
'cause i'm always right,
(but we know i'm not and
I doubt I'll change much)
People are like that too,
if you love them,
you find a spot in your veins
to permently implant them
They never really leave you.
I know why the candles burn
but only one was gone then,
that was such a cruel, lean April.
They are both gone now,
they say that all dogs
go to heaven,
so they are together,
and he's not alone.
I rarely have regrets,
but I regret not ever
meeting either,
and I hurt for you,
then and now
as if you are my own.
I should have told you...
that I was sorry,
so many people
come and go
in our lives,
you would think
I'd learn not to take
them so for granted.
I'm sorry that I can't
take it back,
or ever make it right,
for you, and maybe
it doesn't matter to you now
but I think you should know
the best eight years
of my life,
was as your friend.
In that respect, have no regrets,
except one...
I should have loved you better,
and when I should have,
I should have thought harder
on the cause and effect
but then, we know,
you were always
a better friend to me,
than I was to you.
(smile)
