The Gentleman Caller

The Gentleman Caller

A Poem by Benjamin Welton

What do they call me?

They call me Ghost.
They call me Friend.
They send Christmas cards
addressed to Grandson
that arrive at my December door.
They call me a number.

I also go by the name
Young Mussolini,
or Ageless Lenin.
I get stopped on the street as
Churchill, or
Roosevelt too.

When I am at home
I am "the Orator."
But I am introduced at parties as
"Silent Movie"-
all movement, no sound.

I am known as "the Billowy Corner,"
"The Moving Shadow."
Yes, I do go by many names.

But as to what they call me,
well, mainly they don't call me at all.
