You Tell Yourself

A poem I wrote

You tell yourself

 

You tell yourself it will be alright,

You tell yourself it’s the last time

But deep inside you know

You are lying to yourself

Just another private lie

On your private shelf

 

You say you can’t control it

You say you’d rather not

But you’re alone aren’t you

Useless lies for your own good

For you do quite enjoy it

Nothing else gives you this mood

 

So keep lying to yourself

You can’t deal with the truth

You lie to cover the reality

That this thing has consumed you

And sooner or later

It will destroy you
