Monster of My MindA Poem by Willow RobertsonSometimes the scariest monster is yourself.I watch the clouds block out the moon And leave the world in endless midnight As one by one the stars wink out Leaving me alone with my thoughts The empty house creaks and groans And shadows flash in corners The lights don't work, The doors won't close And I'm left with my thoughts That have me seeing monsters And ghosts in reflections And I lay quietly Eyes shut tight Blankets pulled up In hopes that will protect me But the monster of my mind Is not bothered by such physical, trivial Protections against fear And as I am lulled to sleep it takes over So I dream of fear and angerAnd leave all hope behind And venture into the blackest night Where only misery is to find
