Old Toys

Old Toys

A Poem by Willow Robertson
"

A poem I wrote for my creative writing class. Please read

"

An empty bookshelf

Covered in dust

Stuffed full

Of old toys

Limp Jack-in-the-Boxes

Smiling, springs broken

Worn stuffed animals

Seams split in two

Picture books

Once so bright and colorful

Now dim and drained

Of all light and all love

The toys lie there, abandoned

The room they live in

Is empty and lonely

No child has been there in years

A dirty window across from the shelf

Sunlight streams through

Illuminating dust motes

That are suspended in air

Old toys

Lying there

Abandoned, forgotten

And covered in dust

I really like this. Very much actually. There's a sense of nostalgia and a sadness to it but also a kind of peaceful vibe towards it. The truth is that all toys are worn out and abandoned eventually. Metaphorically and Literally speaking. Sometimes we grow into another chapter in our lives where we are no longer amused by the things that once held all of our attention. It gives a slight thought of evolution. Great job.

I like your description of the toys. It has depth. I also sense the sadness.
