So like the sky

So like the sky

A Poem by Silvanus Silvertung
"

A rhyming love poem

"

Skin on skin in slanting light
I lay awake and feast my sight
She looks so peaceful here in sleep
this girl I've come to love and keep.
Yet sometimes I must wonder why
I love this lady like the sky As other times I wonder how I deserve the woman I have now.

I gaze here at her face in sleep
so innocent and strong and weak.
To wonder if she holds all answers
hidden under eyelash dancers

Or perhaps it's in her nose
In sleepy certainty I think it so.
Perhaps her scent so close to mine
pheromones to soften time.

It's not so easy as appearance
I know. For I who crave assurance
sometimes lose  where the sky just went
It could not merely be a scent.

and then I gaze beyond the girl
and see again the miracle
She's painted me upon the wall
a sword in hand and standing tall.

Yet is it that I wish to be
the man my woman seems to see?
Or is it that when she reveals
her soul to me, all past the shields

I love her then so like the sky
and see the how and where and why?
Perhaps its not a thing I'll see in slanting light, her next to me.
