Say I

Say I

A Poem by mysticgmekeepr

Did It?
Or did I let it?
Did it shape me or
did I automatically
pick up the heavy shroud
throw it over my shoulders
and drag it through the years?
Did it have power,
or did I invest power in it?
Did the fibers of my fear
and the stitches of my shame create it?
Did it,
Or did I let it?
And how could I have not?
Immunizations not given at birth
or in infancy.
Small and at the mercy
of generational wounds;
primal sensitivities vulnerable
and forever susceptible....
raw and exposed,
what defense,
What tiny hands could build
a sufficient wall?
My skills were primitive
like all children,
by the nature of childhood
we are shaped without choice
until something intervenes.
Did it
Or did I?
Both laid the bricks and mixed
the heavy mortar.....
say I.

In my school, you'd never get a high school diploma unless you could explain this poem...
