This (for me) can only mean death and the way the roses are meaningless under the circumstances. Their scent, their lush color, mean nothing. The vessel is symbolism. At least, that's what I see.

Oh, I don't know. They seem to me that they have lots more blooming in them yet. And when they do, they will shine once more and fill the air with their scent.

Ya gotta water the roses! That goes for other plants, animals and humans alike. And sustenance comes in many forms, from food and water to encouragement and belief. In that way we humans are more needy than plants OR other animals; lack of supportive sustenance can lead to loneliness and an impoverished feeling of acceptance. Very nice write. take care...dan
