Well, I'm definitely not one of those people. LOL! I live for meter and rhyme. I love your poem. The message is clear and written exactly opposite of that which you speak. Nicely penned!
No truer general words of most poetry writers have been spoken.
Nice 8/6/8/6 Ballad meter in a,b,c,b spot-on rhymes, simple syntax, and resulting ease of rhythmic flow.
Interestingly and entertainingly writ, in a message spoken well.
To my mind's-eye, your splendid picture choice would appeal to and augment the ambiance of this work far better (also) displayed in its full size above your first verse.
rules are just suggestions, i love rhyme
i don't know why it gets such a bad rap
i also like free verse which some poetry snobs look down on
people should just do their thing, whatever their thing is

Thanks Ana.
i really like this...been battling the traditional forms for so many years---wild and free---and yet, even with free verse, there is a rhythm...the Beats had it...
and even emily dickinson, my favorite poet, said that rules were meant to be violated.....
clever and amusing, this piece is.
especially with the off syllable count that reminds the reader how hard sometimes it is to adhere to the rules....

"Fishy, fishy, fishy,
Swimming in the water.
Bubble, bubble, bubble
SPLASH!"
And it had, like, 20 reviews, all saying how great and brilliant it was. To each their own, I guess, but maybe there ought to be SOME kind of standard for determining what is considered a poem? When does the word "poem" cease to have any meaning? Can I pour up a bowl of cereal in the morning, then hold it up and say, "Hey everybody, look at this poem I just wrote?" Just some thoughts, lol. But I think what you've posted here definitely qualifies. Thanks for sharing

Visibility, flattering reviews, popularity can all hold sway with people if you know how to apply them.
I've seen many poems that were worthy of praise and received nothing. It's just the way it goes.
I simply can't bring myself to make a serious poem that abandons all "rules"! They just end up weird. It seems like all of my poems have the same beat and rhyming patterns. Whatever. It works for me!

searches too much.
It hunts
excessively,
and winds up in thickets
at the lake
of insomnia.
The glint of contentment
is barely visible
