The Color of Ignorance

The Color of Ignorance

A Poem by PadfootBlack
"

Not a poem, and I apologize. Another rant.

"

So I like a black man.

Is that a problem? Why do you try to make me feel ashamed for something I know is right? I love the way our skin contrasts, our features bring out the beauty in each other. I love how when we hold hands, our fingers are like the keys of a piano, a pattern, a painting. I love the smoothness of his skin, and how his teeth and the whites of his eyes shine brightly. I love that he looks like he's dipped in chocolate, how he's just that perfect shade of brown that makes me think of the delicious dessert.

WHAT did you just say? Did you just call him a "n****r"?!

What's happened to you that's made you so hateful? So horrible to your fellow human being? Ugly, you say? Primitive? I can't believe

that after

all

this time

after all the

advances

we've made

there are still people

as

ignorant

as you.

It's sad, it is.

You know what?

I am ashamed.

But not of him. Of you.

You say I should stay within my own race?

We are the same race, dumbass.

The human race.

A race I'm ashamed to say you're still

apart of.

So I like a black man.

What makes him different, hmm? What -exactly- makes him different than you

or me?

What makes him inferior

not as smart

not good enough

not human

hmm?

You can't answer. Because anyone who has

a scrap

of intelligence knows that skin color

truly is

only skin deep.

You say he's not human.

I say he's more human then you'll ever be.

I love the way his voice rumbles like distant thunder when he laughs. I love how his brown eyes stare into my blue, and I can see the kindness in his heart reflecting back at me. I love how when he hugs me, he has to try and keep from crushing me because he's so strong. And I love how he gets so embarrassed, then apologizes for blushing. I adore how he bites his lower lip when he's thinking, and how good he is at math. But most of all, I love the way he smiles, because nothing he could ever do could make me love him more than his smile. He lights up the room, the house, my heart.

Why can't you see

how beautiful he is?

Not a poem, really. Sorry. And I apologize for the useage of the word "nigger", I have never and will never use it, it's in quotes for a reason. Please feel free to comment, and is this bad enough to warrant an 18+? Let me know.

Despite all the positive comments about this "black" man, the protagonist says almost nothing about his personality. Instead, she emphasises his intelligence just occasionally (with her real interest being in his physique and a mere smile). Well, it is only a piece of writing? So, does this mirror any or all of the writer's views about race? Keep writing (but don't give up the day job)!

I loved this. A lot. It's beautiful and people shouldn't criticize u just because you like a black man.

no, your word usage needed to be here to show ignorance and it's (lack of)mindset...i remember being told once that i needed to date women from my own race...and my question was this: where the HELL am i going to find a half irish half maori woman in minnesota???

Sadly it is what it is sweety, The human race will always be divided when it comes to the color of ones skin..Me personally I judge by the strength of character of the person, Meaning caring and loving...We should all be
colorblind and then the world would truly become a better place! But like
I said, sadly Idon't see it happening in our lifetime sugar :(
