Split Heart

Split Heart

A Poem by PadfootBlack

All I know is:
I have always had your hand to hold
your chest to press my ear to
the steady th-thump, th-thump to smooth the cracks on my heart.

All I know is:
I am equally forever yours and never yours,
and I'm still figuring out what that means.

You're a life ring, and three years ago
I latched onto your red and white stripes with bloody, shaky hands.

But baby, I think I have to learn to swim.
