Chapter One

Soft sunlight streamed into their room from the window, the swirling dust caught in its path the only movement in the still warmth of the morning. She stirred as the room slowly became brighter, her hands subconsciously reaching out to him, the tingling in her palms subsiding only once her skin made contact with his chest. With a small sigh, she opened her eyes, blinking multiple times as her eyes accustomed to the light. She tilted her head up towards his face. He was already awake, but knowing him, she doubted he had ever really slept. Jet black eyes gazed back at her, unreadable as ever. She met his gaze, vaguely acknowledgeding a growing curiosity about him in her mind, but she had little desire to dissect that train of thought at the moment. She threw him a lopsided smile as she stretched her legs, moving a fraction of an inch towards him. She rested her hand on his shoulder as she met his gaze again, pleased to find his eyes a shade lighter and a small smile playing along his lips. His arm snaked around her waist, resting at the curve of her back as he gently tucked her against his chest. Her hand slid from his shoulder along his skinny frame to rest on his upper back, pulling herself even closer against his chest. She closed her eyes, the rhythmic rise and fall of his chest lulling her to a strangely calming level of relaxation existence. She inhaled softly, his scent giving her a dizzying head rush before it cocooned her in the very warmth that lulled her to sleep last night. Slowly as she began to drift back to sleep, her thoughts drifted back to her initial train of thought of wondering about him, and what exactly he was. Did her company have the same effect on him as his did to her? Did the comfort of her arms help keep his demons at bay the same way his presence helped calm her? At the moment, she thought slightly absently, the only thing she could do was hope he found some semblance of peace. He didn't deserve the mental turbulence.
