To The Moon And BackA Poem by Tilian Darko
We sit down and plan and map out our mission.
For months we talk about the mission's success. We talked about how we both wanted this. Smiling, we kiss each other, ready to start the mission. As we board the spaceship we giggle and smile at how real this is. Our hearts intertwined from the roots to one another. Our own beings feeling like they've known each other for years. Three. Two. One. We set sail towards our destination. The mission titled "T.T.M.A.B.". That title alone means everything to us. As time goes by gravity pulls down your smile, the nails on your fingers turn into knives while you secretly carve scars into me while I'm smiling. When we said the words we spoke we meant it. While we hover over the moon you act like the mission was for nothing. You kiss me so gently as I feel myself being pushed out of the spaceship. Your hands force me out of safety, falling on the moon. As I land on the moon I look up to the spaceship and see you with someone else, someone you will finish the mission with. Opening the mission folder I write failure next to the words "to the moon and back." while I break down and watch you finish the mission. Still bleeding from the scars you left I slowly die on the moon. I'll say one more time to you. "I love you to the moon and back." © 2017 Tilian DarkoReviews
