Drop Dead She Said

Drop Dead She Said

A Poem by Paul Seaman

Someone Said to me

       the other day

          "Drop Dead"

   it was a joke

       she was sarcastic

you see

   it was funny

to her

   but not

       to me.

   my Wife of three decades

       did just that..

and it was not funny then

   or now.

You know,

I have gotten more perspective on Death

   as most do,

at my age.

I see it as a passage

   as a doorway

       a step to another realm

       we have already known.

I embrace it

   as my partner

       in life.

But Funny --

               No

fear & stupidity ==

       breed humour

not joy or wisdom...

And Sarcasm

   is a dishonest way

       to tell the truth.

She does not care

   if i live or die,

and i am not

       Amused...

They say the word sarcasm is greek for...to tare flesh. I got a lot from this poem. Firstly your capacity to vent was refreshing, your poem was very moving and a little proverbial in as much as we should all live our days as if they are our last. Great work.

I appreciate the overwhelming message of this poem, since you are sadly widowed and you are quite able to make efficient retorts when pushed, I gather, nice pointful writing
