Georgia DreamsA Poem by Persephone BlumA beautiful day in sunny Georgia.... yes?Green grass Bermudagrass Under my small feet I could walk through it for hours But I lay down instead On the grass, under the tree Honey locust The soft breeze blows So different from the bitter, Harsh winds of the North This breeze carries scents Flowers of the state Cherokee Rose and Mountain Laurel The trees whisper As their leaves rub together Black Willows and Sugarberries Tell me their secrets The hot Georgia sun Keeps me warm Keeps me safe As it freckles my skin I close my eyes For just a moment True serenity in my mind When suddenly a disturbance An alarm clock in the distance An alarm clock? My eyes open in shock It is five a.m. In northeastern Vermont It is December It is snowing The wind is whistling Beyond the confines of my bedroom My bed is toasty I am still warm I am under five blankets And am in Georgia no more. © 2011 Persephone BlumReviews
