HappinessA Poem by Persephone BlumThe Joys of MotherhoodHappiness comes from helplessness Though not as a damsel in distress The thought that you are now a pawn That you shall forever be a Mom Happiness comes from a searing pain Hours of crying without any gain And although your body can barely endure For your baby you would do much more Happiness comes from crying with joy A beautiful daughter or a charming young boy The first piercing cries of a new life The joyous sobs of a mother and wife Happiness is loss of what is yours To school, to work, to love, to life And dreams that they must satisfy The loss to make them choose the right Happiness is remembrance What you gave them, they now use To start the cycle you started anew And while you may play a supporting role You gave them what they knew as home. © 2010 Persephone BlumReviews
