The Real You/ What Fruit do You Bear?A Poem by Persephone Blum
If people could see
The Real You What would they think? Not your Facebook or Instagram Or Twitter Not your inner voice Or your dreams. Only you, friend. You, as you dream of your perfect body, Eating pizza and watching TV. You, as you bemoan animal cruelty, But neglect to donate money or time. You, as you pepper the internet with insults, Too afraid to contribute yourself. A warrior with a username. And nothing without it. Fantasize, dream There's nothing wrong with that. But you will accomplish nothing Until you act. Everyone is full of Opinions, ideas, and empathy But what do you do with it? You are judged, my love, By your fellow man and God, By what you do. By what you produce. By who you help. Any tree that does not bear good fruit Is to be cut down And cast into the fire. It may be a tree that retweets for charity And likes and shares for Jesus, But what fruit does it bear? © 2016 Persephone BlumReviews
