Eternal love

Eternal love

A Poem by PANDORA

She sits alone at a table set for two,
covered in faded white linen.
Dusty silverware,
plates,
wine glasses,
fill the desolate space
where she remains
frozen in a moment
waiting for her lover.
She sits straight in her chair,
elbows at her side,
napkin on her lap,
ready for his company.
An open window
creates a gentle breeze
caressing her bare shoulders.
At a glance you would see
hair cascading down her back,
make-up flawless,
body a perfect shape of curves.
As you draw closer you realize...
her hair is old and brittle,
her make-up runs down her face
on a palette mixed with tears,
her body is undernourished.
She has come to this table,
where one chairs always remains empty,
in this forgotten room,
where hope began and died,
waiting for her lover...

For All Eternity.

Mates for life ⁓
Dedication, conviction, promises, warm kisses (perhaps, so much more), and a heart that chose long ago to whom it belongs; one could perceive this beautifully in-love lady awaits dinner with her true love, who has met with an untimely fate, or was callous enough to simply leave her brokenhearted and eternally waiting his presence or return from war, a long trip … the imagination is set in motion by this poignantly moving tale.
There are a few other scenarios that drift into mind, Dear Lady-Poet, but whatever the answer may be, you've more than sated this olde bard's desire to enjoy a beautifully rendered Free Verse, and from your review of my Lemon Avenue, there was little doubt I'd be anything but thrilled.
Thank you sincerely for an excellent moment shared here with you! ⁓ Richard

Try reading it in the voice of Vincent Price! If he's before your time, he did the voice over for Michael Jackson's Thriller. If that's before your time too, I can't be of much help. But still, it gives that last line an awesome punch. My only helpful suggestion might be to include other senses. You have a lot of visual, and a little tactile (the breeze on her shoulders), so maybe the scents of the decaying meal and vinegared wine, with the sounds of grating teeth beneath smiling lips could help paint your moment?

Or it's great the way it is, especially if you have Vincent Price narrating the poetry in your head. :)

How hauntingly beautiful. It brought me back to a glimpse of the brilliant Dickens... You paint in the darkest of hues a love that is eternal, and yet lived in isolation.

Thank you. You pinned it perfectly. Eternal love in isolation.
I think there are two kinds of people in the world: those who are active, and there are those who wait for love. I think I also prefer to wait for the blessings of life. Good things come to those who wait, and I hope the lady in the poem can one day have her happy ending.

The last few stanzas really made me feel sad for the woman but the story that you presented through the poem was very interesting and contained a strong emotion.
I would just ask about the capitalization but other than that, the poem was splendid.
