A Wicked Tale

A Wicked Tale

A Poem by Pamela D. Hart

A dream world, a fairy tale mold
Knights in shiny armor, bravery and honor
A handsome prince, an ugly toad
 Winding down fantasy road
Lace and satin, silver and gold
 Lies upon lies, never told
Crying in the night, hiding in the light
Trying to escape the hellish fright
Living a nightmare, the lonely stare
Looking in the mirror, but nothing’s there
Seeking for reasons, finding all fault
 Crying tears, tasting the salt
A white picket fence, an all-knowing sense
Living a life of false pretense
 Dried up grass, tarnished brass
Running, but you will not pass
 All the questions, time-consuming deceptions
 Never attending ballroom receptions
A razor blade, a jet black spade
Sleeping in the bed you made
When will it end? Will I ever mend?
Must I continue my lying trend?
