The Burden of The Material

The Burden of The Material

A Poem by P.H. Carver
"

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal." Matthew 6:19 We are not our possessions.

"

I am not my used notebooks or high school swimming trophies,

I am not my pictures on the wall,

Though these things are met with Affection they are not my Reflection they're just a Defection in need of Correction and will never be Perfection or a moral Direction,

They are like an Infection,

Ever seeking my Protection,

Yet this burden I still make

Reaping what I sew

My image is fake,

I just need to let go,

They are causing me to break,

But I still let them grow,

All these things on my wall

Causing me to ache

Keeping me opaque

All these things on my wall...

Are keeping me awake

I haven't written a poem since 2011... This came to me today, it is about something that's been weighing heavily on my mind.
I'd love to know what you get out of it!

I really like this piece; it jumps off the page and is very well written. Well done.

I might have asked you to get some sleeping tablets ... but it could be adding on to your baggage. Nice ...

Great rhythm and sequence. The ending is pretty nice as well. Enjoyed.
