Tribute's Last Lament

Tribute's Last Lament

A Poem by Gracie Is Pregnant
"

A poem inspired by the Hunger Games series, although I only read the first book...anyway, these are the realizations that a tribute comes to right before xe dies...

"
These expectations dissipate to smoke

When rancid make-up bleeds into the dirt

So we are simply pawns used to evoke

A flickering fore we become inert.

Our thoughts erased, we were just simply left

Instructions: how to die; not how to live!

Such orchestrations stem from hands so deft

Hold populations in their palms, captive.

Desensitized to the infanticides

Their saviors culled, young minds too blind to see

The evil that presides. Revolt provides

disorder - kill them now, they won’t agree.

It’s funny, lying here to wait to die

I only see now as I close my eyes.
