Attacking panicA Poem by Owen AldinA letter to panicAttacking panic Attacking panic, Why do you
strike fear? In the body and mind? When the
coast is clear? You speed
up sensations, Creating
the feeling, Where one
is not being or enjoying Merely
getting from spot to spot, Place to
place, The long
way round.
Just about
surviving, Pushing
and pulling, Fighting
or fleeing, Freezing
or flopping. The rate
of enjoyment, Rapidly dropping. Until we
give in to its grace, Avoid and
escape to save face. Maybe pump
ourselves full of weird drugs, Just to
get some mental space.
Why do you
make us groggy and rickety? Transform limbs
to jelly? With a kicks
situated powerfully, Leaving invisible
bruises in the belly. In the pit
and depths, Areas we
thought you couldn't never touch. And yet, You
describe it as support, As
rationalising this danger, So why
make us afraid, When
nothing is a threat? © 2016 Owen AldinAuthor's Note
