Where Money FailsA Poem by S Ovwata Onojieruo
Our poet is befuddled in real time,
He walks the street with a surge of mental current ' sees a man, in age; prime "Good morning sir," he mutters in verbal torrent "Would you mind if I got you a drink?" Oh no my son, was the old man's response, I just did, but the shop-keeper won't take a dime There is abundance of Fin' that've made me shrink I seek for whom to give, than from whose wallet to mime So unshocking was the old man's talk For this poet had experienced same; earlier today "But sure there could be something you'll need Some slice of bread, a transport home, a pet to breed, some vacation - paid" Oh yes my son, was the honest 'ply I need alot, this one thing's sure A little lad eager to fly, Or just some lass- no pain endure I'll get all expense fully paid There's bulk of cash in every place I've laid. Disappointed, too sad to think, He's got so much wishing to spend Every's got much; money's at ' end But comes a lady lovely on pink "Alas" he screams "a lass need's ' save" Flinging his blue suit back on board He takes a few stroll- first no word "Would you mind a drink" polite as knave Or some nice meal, no "no" he thought, She smiled and beckoned; 'lead the way,' Harply his heart for one meal bought, Will soar so glad, in joy ' would lay For every's got much more than need' No need for needs, just one to pay heed. When meal time's over and smile's on every's lip He searches his wallet, Something seem fast to flip This lass ' just dropped a dialect 'All expenses ' on my bill.' Angry but framing just some smile, He stares at her; "stop the joke," "I had you come for lunch today, 'cause I wished for someone on whom to spend" "Sorry my dear," the lass replied, I've sought that too, not a one could ' bend Was glad for a chance to spend on you. So our poet walks the street with her, Just praying - not for a morsels bite "Oh Lord in Heaven's height; I plea, Just for some persons deep in need Our world filled up, none is in need And every's seeking on whom to spend." Would such times on Earth really ever come? © 2021 S Ovwata Onojieruo |
