She woke me from deep sleep
Deeper than a snake's eyes stare
Shivers sent up and down my spine
Even under such warm bed clothes
There was a bass drum playing
Beating like the minutes right after midnight
And a high hat chasing after a cymbal crash
Oh how I remember that ride so well
And her voice spoke aloud
Like being unheard in a dream
Sounding that of an angel and the devil alike
Stripped of all but pure emotion and truth
Taking my hand in hers
Striding out onto the dance floor
She leads me in this dance, in this dream
And all I can think about is the fact she's here
I try my best to sing for her
To keep in time
And stay with the beat
But my voice fails me, as it so often does
A smile cracks her lips
As she presses a finger upon mine
'Leave that song for me.' she whispers
And leaves me gasping again for breath
'But he is taking too many pills!' I say
As the horse pulls the carriage over rough, wet ground
She looks me in the eye knowing she doesn't need to speak
To say what doesn't need to be said
My hands and legs go numb
As I fight to stay on my feet
Falling into the darkness
She wakes me from a deep sleep
Again
