OUR Depression

OUR Depression

A Poem by Nashville Rose
"

"It's not just affecting you! It's affecting me too!" When friends are depressed and they just don't get it.

"

Will you stop it?!
Stop pushing me away.
It’s getting tiring!

Doing this every day.

Just let me in already!

We’ve known each other for years.

I’m your best friend!

I know your worst fears.

I can’t make things better.

I can’t make it all disappear.

But, I’ll stick by your side.

So you know you have someone near.

I get it though.

You’re more than just depressed.

Heck, on better days,

You’ve even contemplated death.

But, don’t you get it?
Don’t you see?
It’s not just affecting you!

It’s also affecting me!

It’s our depression.

Because when you are sad.

I am sad,

So we’re both feeling bad!

When I see you cringe and frown,

It makes me want to cry,

Because you put up a mask.

Even though I see through your lies.

I know it’s not in your head.

And bestie, you’re definitely not okay.

But I’m here for your benefit.

I’m here when you want to run away.

It’s our depression,

Because I feel it too.

And I just want you to know.

That I really do love you.

So when you say no one does,

Trust me I feel hurt.

It makes me feel unwanted,

Like I’m nothing but dirt.

I want to help you through this,

But you put up your hand.

You think I can’t be trusted.

That I just can’t understand.

I trust you with my life,

So I guess that will have to do.

I’ll just have to stick by you.

Until you finally trust me too.
