Uncovered

Uncovered

A Poem by Otimbeaux

When you’re born you’re covered with a blanket.

Then you’re covered with clothing

Then math, science, and religion

Then insurance

Then social security

Then dirt

And in between….

Heat lamp

Roofs

Love

Hair

Law

Crowns

Clouds

Climate crises

Sorrow

Faith

Genetics

Spirit

Sound

Mysteries

Friendships

Light fixtures

Rain

Storms….

Remove

the covers….

And

find….

Space….

Imagination….

Freedom….

Potential….

Space……..

Tasting fire

Feeling frenzy

With horizons in sight

And a triumphant hum

Wild onion smell-

Shifted over by shock

Glory, beauty, fresh fulfillment-

Everywhere--

Hearts warmed, drumming

(souls stretching)

Pulse pounding

(head heaving)

Sensory extremity

(HOLD YOUR HORSES)

Overwhelmed with-

Wait. Who are you?

(growth)

Did I bring this on myself?

(healthy)

What have I found?

(more of you)

Acceptance of-

Okay, crossed an ocean

(well done)

And witness the new world-damaging

(with a friend)

Carrying a compassionate

(in your self)

Uncovered-

Exposed / Excited

Pull a hood / Slide into shadow

Cruise the causeway / Radio rocking

Each bootstep a crunch

toward an expansive

new unknown uncharted

beckoning welcoming heartfelt
